Notably, it is the only method approved by the FDA (USA) for permanent hair removal.

How Electrolysis Works

Electrolysis is a safe and effective procedure that removes unwanted hair in a progressively permanent manner. The method involves inserting a tiny probe, similar in size to an eyelash, into the hair follicle. Upon insertion, a short burst of electric current is delivered, targeting the internal structure of the follicle, the bulbous root, and the blood supply. This process prevents the follicle from receiving nutrients, thereby inhibiting future hair growth. The treated hair is then gently extracted and discarded. Because each hair follicle follows its own unique growth cycle, multiple treatments are required to ensure lasting results.

The effectiveness of electrolysis is closely linked to the natural cycle of hair growth. Every hair on the body grows independently, each following its own unique timeline. This means that not all hairs will be at the same stage of growth at any given moment.

Electrolysis delivers the best results when targeting hairs in the Anagen Phase—the period when hair is actively growing and firmly attached to the follicle. During this stage, the electric current is able to destroy the root with greater efficiency, which is why understanding the Hair Growth Cycle is so important in achieving permanent hair removal.

Hair Growth Phases

1. Anagen (Growth Phase):
   1. At this stage, the hair is fully active and anchored deep within the follicle—making it the prime target for electrolysis. The sweet spot for Electrolysis!
   2. Electrolysis is most effective on hairs that are in active growth, which are usually visible or just beginning to emerge.
   3. Because not all hairs are in anagen at once,it is necessary for other hairs to cycle into this phase over time, which means regular electrolysis sessions are required for thorough results.

   1. This is a brief, transitional period lasting about two weeks, in which the follicle shrinks and begins to detach from its blood supply.
   2. As the hair detaches from the follicle, electrolysis can still be performed, but its effectiveness is reduced compared to the Anagen Phase.

   1. During this stage, the hair is fully detached from the follicle and will soon fall out naturally.

Why Multiple Electrolysis Sessions Are Needed

Consultation & Patch Testing

Before any electrolysis treatment can begin, every new client must attend a consultation and patch test. This initial appointment allows the practitioner to assess the client’s suitability for the treatment and determine the most appropriate method. Clients will have the opportunity to learn about the treatment process, ask questions, and discuss available options.

After the consultation, a patch test (taster session) is performed to establish the treatment settings best suited for hair removal and to observe how the client’s skin responds. These settings are recorded, and the client must wait at least 48 hours to ensure there are no adverse reactions before proceeding with the treatment. Advice will be provided regarding what to expect following the procedure.

Choosing the Right Method

Every technique comes with its own advantages and disadvantages. The choice of hair removal method is deeply personal, influenced by factors such as time, cost, product effectiveness, hair growth patterns, skin reaction, skin type, method of removal, expected results, and the expertise of the salon practitioner.

Our Approach

We use Perron Rigot Wax, combining both Peelable Wax (also referred to as Hot Wax) and Strip Wax (known as Warm Wax) to deliver optimal results for every client. This dual approach ensures that we can tailor our waxing treatments to suit individual needs, providing both comfort and effectiveness.

Peelable Wax (Hot Wax)

Peelable Wax , also known as Hot Wax, is specifically used for sensitive areas such as Brazilian, Hollywood, Bikini, Face (including all areas), Nose, and Ears. This wax is applied in a thick layer, allowed to cool and set, and then gently removed by peeling it off. It is particularly well suited to intimate zones, the face, and clients with sensitive skin. The wax adheres to the hair rather than the skin, resulting in reduced discomfort and pain. It is less likely to cause irritation, making it ideal for those prone to redness.

Strip Wax (Warm Wax

Strip Wax , or Warm Wax, is applied in a thin layer using either a spatula or a roller. The wax is then removed with specially formulated paper strips or cotton strips. This method is efficient and relatively painless, making it suitable for removing both very strong, thick hair and very fine hair. After treatment, there is no residue left on the skin. Some redness may occur post-waxing but typically subsides within 24 hours.

Pre- and Post-Wax Care

8. Refrain from consuming alcohol or caffeine for 24 hours prior, as they can increase sensitivity. This will help minimise discomfort during waxing.

1. Do not touch the waxed area to prevent the transfer of bacteria that may cause breakouts or infections. Keeping hands away from treated skin reduces the risk of irritation.
2. Avoid oily or drying products; refrain from heavy creams or alcohol-based toners, as these can disrupt the healing process. Gentle, non-comedogenic products are preferable.
3. Do not wear skintight clothing over waxed areas to reduce irritation and the risk of ingrown hairs, scarring, infection, or delayed recovery. Loose clothing helps the skin breathe and heal.
4. Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for 48 hours to prevent burns or pigmentation. Newly waxed skin is more sensitive to ultraviolet light.
5. Refrain from hot showers, swimming pools, or hot tubs, as chlorine and heat can irritate open pores for up to 48 hours. This precaution helps avoid post-waxing discomfort and infection.
6. Avoid strenuous activity for 24–48 hours, as sweating may clog follicles and increase bumps. Rest allows the skin to recover.
7. Do not undergo chemical peels or laser treatments for at least one week after waxing, as these can strip the skin. Allowing ample recovery time is essential for maintaining skin health.
8. Do not exfoliate the skin immediately post-waxing, as this can transfer bacteria, cause irritation, lead to infection, and delay recovery. Wait until the skin has fully healed before resuming exfoliation.

Hair Growth & Hair Length Consideration

1. The ideal hair length for body waxing falls between 0.5 cm and 1 cm, or approximately ¼ to ¾ inch. This length allows for a smooth and clean removal of hair. For sensitive areas such as Bikini, Brazilian, and Hollywood, it is advisable to trim the hair at home using clean, sanitised scissors to minimise discomfort during the waxing process.
2. If you have recently shaved, it is important to wait at least three weeks, or until the hair has grown to at least 1 cm, before booking your waxing appointment. Shaved hair develops strong roots, and if the hair is too short, waxing may not be effective in removing it entirely.
3. Wearing tight clothing and sitting for prolonged periods with legs crossed or resting on the knee can encourage hair to grow horizontally. In such cases, the hair may remain visible beneath the skin but cannot be removed effectively through waxing. To help prevent this, it is recommended to wear slightly loose clothing and exfoliate once a week, particularly in areas where horizontal hair growth is likely. Please note, it is not the responsibility of the Beauty Therapist to remove these individual hairs for you.

Patch Testing for Specific Circumstances

A patch test is only required under specific circumstances:

1. If you are taking strong medication known to negatively impact your skin, or that could potentially affect your skin during the waxing process
2. If you are on internal corticosteroid medication that impacts your skin externally
3. If you have a skin-related medical condition that affects the area you wish to have waxed
4. If you have a skin condition that reacts to heat
5. If you have a severe skin condition

It is recommended to book a Patch Test at least 24 or 48 hours before your waxing appointment.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are applying a steroid cream to the area you would like to be being waxed we will NOT carry out a Patch Test or waxing treatment on the affected area.

The Consultation will help identify any conditions that are contra-indicated prior to the Patch Test. When the Patch Test is carried out, it will help us monitor for signs of irritation such as redness and its duration, itching, allergic reactions, or sensitivity to our wax.

Where you have received a waxing treatment in the past and did not experience any adverse reactions, such as irritation or sensitivity, it is not necessary to book a patch test.

The Consultation will help identify any conditions that are contra-indicated prior to the Patch Test. When the Patch Test is carried out, it will help us monitor for signs of irritation such as redness and its duration, itching, allergic reactions, or sensitivity to our wax.

Where you have received a waxing treatment in the past and did not experience any adverse reactions, such as irritation or sensitivity, it is not necessary to book a patch test.
